Expanding on my Intro to Digital Cartography final map, at least thematically if not literally, I'm going to be making an interactive map of US cryptids/fearsome critters. It'll include locations, and you'll be able to click on a location for a description of the alleged monster sighting or any other noteworthy information.
There are a lot of pre-existing maps of this kind of thing, but they're mostly either totally static and uninformative OR super ugly. I want to create something in the middle ground -- a map with a clearly defined visual aesthetic AND a good deal of interactivity and information. I'm planning to do this in Flash, because I have more experience producing this kind of map in Adobe software than pure scripting. I'll be trying to use a sort of retro-computer 80s hacker visual style, influenced by movies and TV like The X Files or Dr. Strangelove to play up the fun "conspiracy" angle of this project, as opposed to the antique style I tried for in the previous monster map.
